I fixed this by adding an exclusion to FFv for Mercenaries.

The easiest way of doing this is by viewing one of the .mpg movies in

mektek.net\Mechwarrior Mercenaries - Mektek Mekpak\Content\Movies

once your player starts up, pause the movie and check out the tooltray. You'll see a red 'FFv' icon in there.

Right click on that puppy and choose 'ffdshow Video Decoder'.
Click on the 'directshow control' tab on the left.
Click on the 'edit' button next to where it says 'don't use ffdshow in'.
Click on 'Add' and navigate to the MW4Mercs.exe startup executable in the Mekpak directory.

Now you should be able to run the game.

This one frustrated me for quite a while! It happens if you've installed the latest ffd show since you installed Mercs.

Hope this helps!!
