Hi,

A friend of mine bought MW4 a while ago but he couldn't get it to install. It always stopped between 20-30% on both of his computers. He just gave it to me hoping I could find some use out of it, but I can't get it to install either.

I'm on Windows 2000 SP4. As far as hardware, we both surpass the system requirements and I have never had any issues of any kind. The disk itself is in perfect condition as well. Here is the error message I see every time at 29%:

Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries Setup encountered a disk error while writing to the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Mechwarrior Mercenaries\resource\props.mw4. Make sure that your hard disk is not full, and that the file is not in use.

I have almost 40GB of free disk space so I know that isn't the problem. Any ideas?

Try cleaning/polishing the disc.
I had a badly scratched disc that did the exact same thing, stop at the same point every time.
