"Battlefield2"

I've been thinking about picking up a new action game to play on XBL. I haven't really been making use of my subscription after I stopped playing halo 2, and wanted to know what is a pretty decent game that is still popular. The three I narrowed my search down to are Rainbow six lockdown, Starwars Battlefront 2, or Battlefield 2. I dug the first Rainbow six 3 alot, but vehicles would be nice. Battlefield 2 is on sale for 10 bucks less than the other two so that gets it bonus points. Now might be a good time to finally try Mechassult 2 as well. What's yous guys opinion?

I don't really enjoy FPS games on any console.

MechAssault 2 feels the same as MA1 combat-wise, but the multiplayer is real restrictive as it dictates what vehicles can be used on each map. Gets old. Takes out any variation in strategy. The persistant planet control was a good addition. I just wish they would have left some things in the basic game setup alone. MA1 was better in that regard.

We may not ever see a MA3.

I'd go for the Star Wars game.

Thanks Crow, Battlefield 2 and Star Wars Battlefront are basically the same thing from what I read. One is star wars though and the other's just a PC port. That is probably the deal breaker for me.

I played the PC version of Battlefront 2. Its a lot of fun but keep in mind its very fast and arcadey. Its also not the smoothest running game out there. I only played the magazine demo of Battlefield: Modern Combat but I wasn't overly impressed with it. It may be that I'm mentally comparing it to the PC version which is far superior. Best bet is to rent both.

The star wars one has those annoying unfun space battles that suck balls.

Despite the sucky space battles, I settled for SWBF2 simply because the AI on BF2 is just atrocious. Also, when I rented it, I encountered lag online, as well as a bunch of 9-year old retards who crashed the airplanes into mountains and screamed the F word. I haven't played SWBF2 online yet, but drop me an email if you want to set up something.

Sorry Dog, ended up buying RB6 Lockdown instead. That was the biggest mistake I've made in a while. It's really a surprise to me that this game is so bad though, since I really liked the first Rainbow Six 3 on the xbox. I thought it had a very nice balance of straight up console action, and classic Rainbow Six tactics. This one they really dumbed down for whatever reason, younger target market, it fell behind schedule and couldn't include everything Redstorm wanted, whatever. This game is just bad, they totally reduced the number of guns, they removed some of my favorites like the Enfield, and the FAMAS. There's not even a HK MP5SD, which is the signature weapon of the series. The storyline sucks, they went for a very cheesy nineties action movie feel with some lame rock music and all that which again is very not RB6.

I thought multiplayer would redeem this mess, but it's even worse the campaign missions. Hand grenades especially the white phosphorus and mines are very overpowered and unbalanced. The persistent character mode that sounded very cool, rpg elements in a shooter, makes the unbalanced weapons even worse. You have level 40 players preying on level 1 newbies with their grenades since they can afford them, and new players don't have the cash yet. The maps from what I've seen are also not as good as the classics, plus the visuals with the exception of cut scenes look like a step back to me.

Anyway, sorry about the long rant but this game is very bad and it annoyed me very much. I really should have taken Bangy's advice and visited blockbuster before putting any real money down. There is a bright side of having bought this crap however. This RB6 version angered me so much that I went on ebay and got Rogue Spear and the expansion for the PC for the price of shipping. I had never tried Rogue Spear since a PC to run it on was out of the budget at the time it was new.

I’ll let you know if I do end up getting the starwars thing, but right now it looks like I’ll be mostly playing PC games if I have anytime at all to fool around with this stuff since I finally got my new graphics card working right.

Well if you're into Tom Clancy type games, Counterstrike just went down to 10 bucks for a brand new copy, and plenty of people still play it online.

P.S. don't plan on playing starwars online without buying the expansion pack for it (5 bucks). About 99% of the online population (including myself) owns it. It's not a bad thing for the price because you get 4 new maps and 2 different jedi characters, but I felt kind of cheated because you need the pack just to play a single game online. But hey, I guess that's what I get for stealing my Live subscriptions.

P.P.S I eventually learned to love the space battles because (A) I'm better at them than most people and (B) there's nothing like trash talking someone while you're dropping a huge payload on their sensor arrays and your teammates are inside their ship disabling the life support.

Hey If anyone gets the chance pick up Metal Arms: A Glitch in the System for the XBOX. Its about $5.99 and its a nice little 3rd person shooter. Multiplayer and a pretty good single player game are both done well. I just bought a used copy and I'm about half way through it.

Cool. I played that back when I was still dating a Gamecube. I might buy it for the 'box if it's live enabled.

I don't think Its live enabled Dog. Sadly I used to date a Gamecube as well. But she pissed me off and I sold her for 50 bucks. The Xbox I have doesn't bring that up.

I picked up mechassault for $4.99 a few weeks ago. It seems like it should be battlefield instead of anything mechwarrior related. I dislike the game, but I will try to finish it.

Deus Ex was cheap too.

I'm personaly looking forward to finding a cheap copy of Burnout 3.

Here's a tip for Deus Ex:

If you ever need to get into a place, use the air vent. I swear to god there is ALWAYS an air vent. I think I used maybe 10 multitools through that whole game, mostly just on boxes.

Anyone know how to beat General Corosive on the last level of Metal Arms? I'm stuck.
