AWESOME!

I guess in their view they could profit by not having to make another mech game, but instead let the people make the ones they envision!

This is amazing. Wow. Can't wait to see what develops!

I guess this is the clearest sign yet that MS won't be doing a MC3, though .

Not that I'm expecting them to, but id releases the source for all their games (eventually), and they still keep rehashing the Quake series. Presumably a MC3 wouldn't keep using the considerably aged MC2 engine.

But this is MS.

Big difference.

MS knows not to compete against itself, especially in a genre not 100% defined by graphics technology, like the FPS genre.

And before you start fiddling around with it, be sure to fix the MechCommander2.proj file. It has an error.

I fear they are attempting to turn us into unpaid MS programmers, however, with their talk of licensing and "shared" (not "open") source...

Well i looked at the licenses of it there is a 2out of 3 licenses chance that we can legally redistribute it. Wolfman is already started working on it so true they could do that but everyone would be happy until we would require a new engin

But until then lets role!!!!!!!

Magic;

I made some changes and compiled the revised files (without including any xpack files). Here is one nice thing that you will like; now you can generate all the missing tgl files once you compile it; the source code package includes only the ase files but after compilation you have all tgl files.

The downside of the release is that the multiplayer functionallity is taken out. I wondered why the exe files are much smaller than the original once and I guess that is the reason.

Let me know if you want to work on this without any time stress and we might want to share a data base to start with and coordinate activities. I am not absolutely sure it is worth it at all and I am not sure about what can be achieved because it seems not to be the full source code.

Does anyone out there know how to program multiplayer code for MC2 Source? I mean seriously we need this! Everyone try to contact some of the very first players like panther or someone, cause i think some of them actually knew how to do that stuff.
Ask on other forums to i do not know all of them
Please...
