"New to the Forum - Big idea for MechAssault; take a look"
So I was scouring the internet looking for a community site for BattleTech – or more specifically MechAssault – when I came across this one. First off let me state that I’ve been playing BattleTech since it’s early – early – days. I’m talking my older brother bought the starter box-set when it first came out (anyone remember the picture of the MechWarrior standing at the foot of a Warhammer with the ladder running up the inside of the leg?).
When MechWarrior hit the PC I became interested in that and briefly became part of something called the Star League Campaign, which involved a group of people that formed up into Houses, Merc units, and Pirate bands, battling for intangible things like bragging rights and points that equated to what ‘Mech certain players where allowed to pilot. It was fun, gave players something to do rather than engage in simple – and pointless – death matches, but it never really evolved like it could have and was plagued by the lag of early internet dial-up connections.
When I bought my Xbox, MechAssault was one of the first games I picked up, and I enjoyed it immensely for what it was; an arcade shooter based in the BattleTech universe with some of the best ‘Mechs from their respective weight classes (though I would have LOVED to have a game with modern graphics that let me pilot a Marauder), and though I wasn’t thrilled with the salvage/power-up aspect of the game, I soon grew to accept it as a necessary part of the game. When MechAssault 2 came out, I was initially excited about the Conquest campaign, but that entire game soon disappointed me in so many different ways.
Now, in the waining – arguably the dead – days of the first MechAssault, I was wondering if anyone still enjoyed playing this game on Xbox Live? The reason I ask is because I have an idea for something that would give those intested something to do other than just play for the sake of playing and possibly give us a stable party of people to play with and against rather than logging on and finding the barren fields of nothing when trying to find a game to play.
I call it the Battle for the Inner Sphere campaign, and it is something of a mix between the before mentioned Star League campaign and the now dead Conquest campaign. It is based around MechAssault (the first game, not Lone Wolf) as the game to use with most communication between players happening via email. In it, those interested would split up into warring Houses – with the potential for Mercs – and fight for control of neighboring systems, as well as individuals building point totals, with those points players can opt for larger, heavier, ‘Mechs, use them to buy “Jumps” to invade deeper into enemy territory, hire mercenaries, and bid on game types and what map they will battle on. Hopefully this would be an ongoing thing – for as long as enough people would be interested in it – and give us something to do other than blast each other for a bunch of online stats that in the long run – especially now – don’t really mean a thing.
So if anyone is interested in this idea, please let me know either here on the boards or via email and I’ll post and/or mail the rules I’ve come up with and see if this is something that might take root. Either way, thanks for reading.

If you could generate enough interest in MechAssault ( I never play it anymore, either version) I would suggest asking an existing league to set up a "division" specifically for MechAssault. The easiest would probably be www.MechWarriorLeagues.com
Their system is very cookie-cutter for each league type so they could set up one if there was enough interest. It would be easier for you (no setup or work involved). All your effort could be focused on recruiting people to start playing again and get them interested in team play.
