"Speculation Moment"

Jeff Greens blog over at One Up has this bief paragraph:
---------------------------------------- QUOTE:
"Anyhoo, the July issue of GFW is being printed now and will be in mailboxes shortly, and it is, if I may be so bold, and I think I may since this is my blog, a great one. The cover story is one of those OMG WORLD EXCLUSIVES WE SAW IT BEFORE YOU DID HAW HAW stories that magazines love to crow about even though the Internet is making all that irrelevant anyway.
I'm not allowed to tell you what it is yet, but will be posting the cover next Friday, jeebus willing. Suffice it to say it's the new game in one of PC gaming's oldest franchises--a series w/bazillions of fans. Ryan Scott wrote the story and did his usual kickass job, because Ryan KICKS ASS."

Using deductive reasoning they have an "exclusive" in a Games For Windows Title. The only publisher that could guarantee complete silence while allowing a print publication to break the story would pretty much be just Microsoft>GFW....right?
One of the oldest franchises with bajillions of fans....
FASA just got finished with Shadowrun (FASA, of course, being whollly owned by MS)
Crimson Skies?....not so old.
Mechwarrior?....old. First game circa 1989-90 ( give or take a year). Fanbase is a shadow of its former self though after the success of Chromehounds and to a lesser extent, Steel Battalion/Tekki it's been discovered that there IS a demand for a solid mecha simulation and not just breezey stuff like Mechassault.
Games For Windows/One Up have already announced Starcraft 2, CoD 4 etc so its not those. The statement implies something not known via the web. I know its grasping for straws but it gives us another week of hopes that will only be cruelly crushed at the end but, hey, lets have some fun with it shall we?

Vam on the front page of Mektek seems to be optimistic --
http://www.mektek.net/joomla/index.php
I've made contact with two official contacts whom will remain nameless and they were not very convincing in denying this development. We are asking as many questions right now as you can think of because we want to know as badly as you do. Stay tuned and keep checking back with us.
I'm not holding my breath though even if the rumor is true. Do any developers "get" MW anymore? I doubt it.
Edit: Nice to see that Jeff Green is still alive. His articles on the last page of CGW years ago were occasionally pretty funny. He replaced Martin Cirulis on the last page, whose MW2 strategies article in the mode of BT fiction was pretty cool.
