I disagree on the the axe wielding mechs, although they're not practical for fighting in open territory. They were never designed for that, move to city fighting which is a major part of the battletech universe on the other hand and the story changes. There are alot of other mechs in this category like the Huntchback and the Annhilator. A cool scenario to the new game would to force players into a large urban center filled with these nasty buggers and you've got to clean it out. Bet you can't wait to hear the alarm system screaming cold start!!!! Remember when you're using ammo in the inner city, the hatchet weilding mechs are not concerened about it.
Would you take an axe or a gun to an indoors fight? That's right, guns still win. What makes you think the hatchet is more powerful than a ranged weapon? Wouldn't you risk breaking your mech's arm if you swung hard enough? I just see no place for melee weapons, especially non-energy ones, in BT.
